Drive through dry valleys and barren roads of Hajar Mountains seemed endless. With no signal and unable to update the map, unconsciously I was proceeding ahead, like if I already sensed I was gonna discover something spectacular in a moment. Unexpectedly, the fuscous mountain tops emerged in front of me – the tones I’ve never seen anywhere else in the United Arab Emirates. And then this soothing view of spires of the green palm trees of the hidden oasis.
UNDER THE RED MOUNTAIN
Driving home I passed through many palm plantations on the way. Yet, at none of them I looked with such an admiration as at hidden oasis under the red mountain. I guess, people who inhibited this place years ago chose it on purpose. How I wish I could talk to any of the local person to hear the story about this area. Sadly, it is very hard to encounter them, as they do not stay here permanently. I suppose these farms are their heritage that they still take care of and maybe visit from time to time, just to keep them running.
HIDDEN OASIS IN THE MOUNTAINS
To reach the hidden oasis in Fujairah(25°35’49.4″N 56°08’43.7″E) you will need 4×4 car. It’s a short drive uphill from the main road, passing by old local houses occupied by farmers. Once you reach the top you are going to find yourself on the old farming fields, above the lush palm tree gardens. Take a stroll around and find your way to another oasis, hidden deeper in the mountains(25°35’43.0″N 56°08’51.5″E). Stop by in the shadow of palm fronds, breathe and listen to the restful sound of running water through the irrigation system.
